DANCE MAKER
VISUAL ARTIST
TEACHER

DANCE ART  Ali considers her first and foremost passion to be dance.  Along with movement art, she also writes, draws, photographs, and sculpts.

As a choreographer and teacher, Ali is currently most interested in making dance that invites full-bodied presence for both performers and audience.  She explores making work with a palette of premeditated choices and concepts that allow for spontaneity.

Her intention is to make an environment that is conducive for the ‘art of presence’ rather than it being strictly improvisational or a premeditated fixed structure.  This approach welcomes freshness and virtually makes it impossible for a dance or a class to "arrive"  in a fixed product.  The daringness, honesty, magic, unknown, seen and unseen that can happen within this balance of structure and flow inspires her dance-making.  Freedom of timing, order, and space is allowed to be nourished and embodied.

Ali’s dance story, along with receiving a MA in Dance & Well-being from the University of Lancashire, Britain, includes a BA in modern dance from the University of South Florida.  She has worked with choreographers across the USA over the last 25 years.

Some of these artists and companies include: Allyson Greene, Lindsey Dietz Marchant, Malashock Dance, Eun Jung Choi, McCaleb Dance, Lost Wax, Lower Left Collective, Leanne Schimdt & Company, Erin Cardinal, Danny Shapiro & Joanie Smith, Lynne Wimmer, Repertory Dance Theater, David Parsons, Zvi Gotheiner, DIkayl Remash, Walt Disney, Gina Kohler, Dance Entropy, SleepDance, John Beasant III, and Elsa Valbuena.

In New York City, Ali's choreography has been seen in such venues as Spoke the Hub, Greenspace Dance, Studio AIR, Brunswick Starr, AUNTS production, Triskelion Arts, Queens College, Joyce Soho, Moving Body Salon, The Secret Theater, and the Progressive Arts Network.
